Introduction

During orthodontic treatment, various problems may arise. These problems are natural and have solutions. In this article, we address all common problems and their practical solutions.

Section 1: Pain and Discomfort

Pain and discomfort in the first days after installation or adjustment of braces is completely normal.

Causes of Pain:

  • Pressure from brackets and wires on teeth
  • Irritation of gums and oral tissues
  • Bracket rubbing against the inside of lips and cheeks

Solutions:

  1. Painkillers: You can use over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen (with doctor's consultation)
  2. Soft Foods: In the first days, eat soft foods like soup, yogurt, and puree
  3. Cold Compress: Drinking cold water or ice cream can reduce pain
  4. Orthodontic Wax: If brackets rub against your lips or cheeks, use orthodontic wax

Tip: Pain usually decreases after 3-5 days. If pain is severe or persistent, contact your specialist.

Section 2: Loose or Broken Brackets

Sometimes brackets become loose or break. This problem usually happens due to eating hard foods or impact.

What to Do?

  • If bracket is loose but still attached to wire: Don't try to remove it. Contact the clinic and visit as soon as possible.
  • If bracket is completely detached: Keep it and bring it to the clinic. We may be able to reattach it.
  • If wire is sticking out and bothering: You can cover it with cotton or orthodontic wax until you visit the clinic.

Prevention:

  • Avoid eating hard foods like crispy rice, almonds, and popcorn
  • Cut hard fruits into small pieces
  • Be careful when eating
